Art Without Borders: Mexican Baby Peeks Over ‘Trump’s Wall’

A large graffiti of a Mexican boy looking over the fence that separates Mexico and the USA appeared one morning, surprising border guards. This is an installation by French street artist JR, who has a style similar to that of British graffiti artist Banksy.

The boy has a name, he is called Kikito, JR revealed. The portrait of the boy looking over the fence from Mexico into the USA is located at the Tecate border crossing, on the demarcation line where American President Donald Trump intends to build a wall to prevent the entry of illegal migrants.

– Meet Kikito. He turned one last April. He will be on the fence in Tecate for a month, JR wrote on Twitter.

JR shared the process of creating the boy looking over the wall on social media, and on Twitter alone, the installation was viewed by over 27 thousand people, with several tens of thousands commenting.

Kikito appeared after Trump tightened immigration rules concerning immigrant children. Namely, as many as 800 thousand people who came to the USA as children and whose entry into the country is undocumented are faced with the possibility of deportation.

Indeed, Trump’s predecessor, President Obama, in 2012 allowed residents of the USA who entered the country illegally as children to attend school and obtain work permits. “Dreamers,” as the children, now adult migrants are called in the USA, anxiously await Donald Trump’s decision on whether they will be allowed to continue living in the USA or will have to leave the country.
