Towards the Day of Great Plans – Boris Žgomba: 2018 is a Year of Major Transition for Uniline

The leading figures of the economy – opinion makers, CEOs, representatives of the Government and European institutions will gather on September 27 at Lider’s ninth international conference Day of Great Plans at the Westin Hotel, where they will announce global and micro forecasts for individual markets for 2018. Entrepreneurs and managers will receive practical inputs and useful information that will help them refine their business plans for the upcoming year with greater precision.

Boris Žgomba is the foremost figure in travel agencies in Croatia, one of the main tourism lobbyists, and the owner and CEO of the tourism company Uniline, the largest Croatian tour operator, which has been successfully operating in markets around the world for over twenty years.

If you are preparing your company for business in the coming year, who better to guide you than the leaders of the most successful companies from various sectors who can announce the most important global trends that will have a direct and indirect impact on your business? You can still register for participation in the Day of Great Plans by filling out the online form.

Žgomba will speak in detail at the Day of Great Plans about how Croatian tourism, which has achieved extraordinary results this year thanks to the long-term efforts of entrepreneurs, is at a dangerous crossroads.

– The government should adopt measures to improve tourism business for the following year every year, no later than May. It is primarily necessary to thoroughly “plow” the legislative framework with a package or set of tourism-oriented laws that directly and indirectly affect business in ownership, destination marketing, and financial aspects. These include laws on tourist land, tourist boards, residence fees, the Labor Law, and, for example, the Regulation on special taxation procedures. I view tourism in a broader sense as an interactive export platform for domestic goods and services – explains Žgomba.

>>> Big Interview with Boris Žgomba: Croatian Tourism is in a Very Dangerous Phase

Žgomba founded the company Uniline back in 1996, when it was only a dream to have the tourism we have today after the war years. Initially, Uniline was an incoming tour operator for Croatia, and over the years, the incoming market expanded to other countries in Southeast Europe. Today, Uniline is recognized as a tourism company that offers a complete tourism product, from accommodation services, transfers, excursions, car rentals, bus tours, airline tickets, skiing, organizing congresses, sports events, special programs for individual guests, group arrangements, outgoing arrangements, as well as numerous special programs. Since 2010, the company has held the Europcar franchise and has over 1500 vehicles in its fleet, placing it among the top car rental companies in Croatia. In the beginning, the company had only a few employees, and today the Uniline team consists of more than 200 employees working in branches across Croatia as well as offices in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Serbia, China (Shanghai), and South Korea (Seoul), with representation in Japan, Korea, and Thailand. More than 350,000 guests from all continents use the company’s services annually, and that number continues to grow each year.

Boris Žgomba began his long business career in the tourism sector over thirty years ago and is now considered a leader and creator of tourism trends in Croatia and the region. He is involved in tourism at both the national and international levels. He actively participates in numerous organizations and associations for the development and promotion of tourism and the economy of Croatia. He currently serves as the President of the Association of Travel Agencies at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, is the Vice President of the European Association of Travel Agencies and Tour Operators (ECTAA), and is also a member of the Council of the Croatian Tourist Board, the Istria County Tourist Board, and the Tourist Board of the City of Pula. He has served two terms as President of the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies (UHPA) and one term as President of the European Association of Travel Agencies and Tour Operators (ECTAA). His long-standing successful personal work, as well as the work of the company Uniline, was confirmed by being a finalist in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 competition. He received recognition from the Polish Association of Travel Agencies (PIT) in 2014 for his exceptional contribution to tourism cooperation between Poland and Croatia and is one of the few foreign laureates to receive this recognition. In 2012, he was awarded the Project Manager of the Year award in the CROMA selection for “Manager of the Year 2012,” while in 2006 he received the prestigious Employee of the Year award in the tourism business from the Croatian Tourist Board.

– Next year is definitely the year for Uniline as a company to begin a systematic and lasting transition. From a predominantly tour operator business with a strong car rental operation, we are entering the segment of marketing and sales management, i.e., hotel management of hotels in foreign and our ownership. This also implies innovatively tailored content or offers for new markets, continued expansion into distant markets, and systematic education of the company’s human resources at all levels – concludes Žgomba.
