IRIM and CARNet introduce 45,000 microcomputers in primary schools through the digital literacy project

The project PROMikro, aimed at introducing digital literacy into various subjects and extracurricular activities using microcomputers, was presented on Tuesday at a press conference at the Ministry of Science and Education, which, together with CARNet, is a partner in the project initiated by the Institute for Development and Innovation of Youth (IRIM).

The project plans to procure around 45,000 microcomputers for all sixth-grade students in primary schools that respond to the public call, which will be open from September 20, said IRIM co-founder Nenad Bakić. He announced that around 2000 teachers will be trained through 150-200 workshops at 30 locations in Croatia during October.

Minister of Science and Education Blaženka Divjak thanked the partners and stated that the project will help bridge the transition from 20th-century schools to 21st-century schools, adding that the knowledge students will gain in this way will serve multiple subjects.

Director of CARNet Goran Kezunović reported that a public procurement process is underway, after which the actual costs of the project, expected to amount to 4.8 million kuna, will be known.

By the beginning of November, microcomputers should be in schools, and no prior knowledge is required for teachers who will work with students, it was stated.
