Singer Marko Perković Thompson appeared today at the trial of former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader in the Fimi Media case, where he reiterated his previous testimony. He also stated that he discussed with Sanader whether they would support them. At that time, they did not talk about the price of his performance, and when Sanader asked him if he could help in any way, Thompson said that assistance was needed for the construction of the church in Čavoglave. Thompson stated that Sanader gave him 50,000 kuna for the church on the same day.

Additionally, Thompson said that in 2007 he did not perform for any political party. According to the indictment, he received 500,000 euros not to perform for anyone. He did not appear at the hearing two months ago, nor did he justify his absence, which is why his detention was ordered.
Unofficially, he arrived at the courthouse with his face covered. If he had not appeared, the police would have brought him to the Zagreb County Court, reports HRT.

The prosecution claims that Thompson, according to the idea of the accused Sanader, received money from a black party fund – so that he would not perform at election rallies for the far-right political camp and thus take away some voters from HDZ.

Alongside former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and party treasurer and customs chief Mladen Barišić, the accused in this case also includes HDZ as the first party accused of corruption, Fimi Media owner Nevenka Jurak, former HDZ treasurer Branka Pavošević, and former spokesperson of Sanader’s government and HDZ Ratko Maček. All of them, at the beginning of the repeated trial requested by the Supreme Court, unlike the first proceedings, rejected the charges of siphoning money and filling the “black party fund” through the marketing agency Fimi Media.
