Google’s Artificial Intelligence, STEM in Croatia, Football and Sex are Just Some of the Topics at the 10th WMF

Investigative journalism described through the experience of journalist Jonathan Calvert from the British The Sunday Times, who uncovered crime in FIFA, is just one of the panels inviting all interested parties to join this year’s Weekend Media Festival in Rovinj.

The tenth WMF brings the latest insights from the fields of science and technology. Specifically, Dominik Osterholt from Google Digital Academy will speak about the transformation of Google from a search engine into a company focused on developing artificial intelligence. Key topics of the conference part of the festival include communication during the Agrokor crisis, the influence of business and politics on the media, the development of the digital society, and new economic models.

– We have elevated the tenth edition of the Weekend to a level befitting a great jubilee, so this year will not lack interesting panels, attractive speakers, and accompanying content, said festival director Tomo Ricov during the program presentation.

STEM in Croatia, more precisely, “STEM, j’taime: the future has already begun,” is the name of the panel featuring entrepreneur Nenad Bakić, sociologist Boris Jokić, innovator Mate Rimac, and HT board member Boris Drilo.

– I would also highlight the panel “Is Croatia Moving Forward?” in which renowned experts will attempt to answer whether Croatia can break free from the clutches of clientelism, which is one of the key problems of our society, said program director Nikola Vrdoljak.

Interestingly, one of the panels will be dedicated to the phenomenon of creative idleness and the application of this concept specifically at the WMF. There will also be discussions about the growing influence of Google and Facebook on the global advertising market, and the most entertaining panel has been rated as the one about sex.
