Grmoja: HDZ is making every effort to prevent the establishment of a commission for Agrokor

Political secretary and member of parliament for the Most Independent Lists Nikola Grmoja emphasized on Monday the need to establish a parliamentary investigative commission on Agrokor, asserting that the current case of the island of Smokvica supports this claim.

“The Smokvica case is just one example, but also a strong and irrefutable argument in favor of the parliamentary commission. We need to know which institutions have failed and what we need to change to prevent Agrokor and Ivica Todorić from happening again,” Grmoja stated.

Grmoja points out that Todorić has unlawfully used the island of Smokvica Vela for years, and that the unlawful and free use of this island has cost the state more than 200 million kuna that have gone into statute of limitations, while he is still legally battling over a debt of 36 million kuna from the last five years.

“The extent of this absurdity is clear when we see that Croatia has still not managed to reclaim its property, despite the fact that a court ruling on enforcement has existed for seven years,” Grmoja emphasizes.

Investigation into Agrokor

He claims that HDZ is “making every effort” to prevent the establishment of the commission, justifying this by an ongoing investigation that the parliamentary commission could allegedly compromise. However, the goal of the commission is not to determine criminal responsibility but to establish which institutions have failed and allowed Agrokor to grow to such proportions and negatively impact the entire economy, Grmoja points out.

He also reminds that the investigation into Agrokor, which aims to determine the criminal responsibility of Todorić and the leadership of the group, is being conducted based on a criminal complaint by the president of Most, Božo Petrov.

He further reminds that the Croatian Parliament will vote on the investigative commission on Agrokor in September, as the ruling majority decided to postpone the vote even though all conditions for voting on it in July were met and although the arguments for the commission in the parliamentary debate were far more convincing.
