Slovenian gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 4.4 percent in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, according to the first estimates released by the Slovenian National Statistical Office on Thursday.
The GDP growth in the second quarter is slightly lower compared to the first quarter, when an annual growth of 5.1 percent was recorded.

According to data from the Slovenian Statistical Office, the increase in GDP in the second quarter was primarily driven by exports and domestic consumption.
Total domestic consumption in the second quarter increased by 3.7 percent compared to the same period last year, with final consumption rising by 2.7 percent, while gross investments grew by 7.4 percent.
Exports, on an annual basis, according to the first estimate, were up by 8.3 percent, while imports grew more slowly, by 7.9 percent.
At the same time, the Slovenian Statistical Office has raised its estimate of GDP growth for last year to 3.1 percent.

This is 0.6 percentage points higher than the first estimate made by statisticians in February of this year, when they estimated the growth in 2016 compared to the previous year at 2.5 percent.
