Salary Base for Public Services Increased by Two Percent

The government made a decision on Thursday to increase the salary base for employees in public services by two percent, and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković emphasizes that this is the government’s message that it does not discriminate against employees in public services compared to those in state services, and he called them to negotiations on a new Basic Collective Agreement (BCA).

– I am sending a message to all employees in public services, our teachers, professors, doctors, nurses, cultural workers, and others, that this is a message about raising the salary base by two percent, continuing the very clear political message we gave at the beginning of the year, during negotiations with the unions, the same one accepted by the unions of state services, which was about a two percent increase in three instances, said the Prime Minister.

New salary base for August

The new salary base will amount to 5,315.24 kuna gross and will apply to the salary for August, which is paid in September. The funds, amounting to 150 million kuna, are secured in the budget.

– By unilateral decision today, we do not in any way put employees in public services in a discriminatory position compared to employees in state services, Plenković stated.

He emphasizes that his government, although it was not foreseen in the budget, has also paid Christmas bonuses and vacation allowances, and that without a budget rebalance. “These are important messages of social solidarity that we as a government continuously send because it is the cornerstone of our policy,” he added.

The government also made a decision to initiate negotiations for the conclusion of a BCA for employees in public services and appointed the government negotiating committee, while Minister of Labor and Pension System Marko Pavić called on the unions to determine their representatives so that negotiations could begin as soon as possible.

– We call on the unions of public servants to complete the process of determining their representativeness as soon as possible so that they can successfully conclude and negotiate a new BCA by November 1, he said.

Plenković stated that the government appreciates the work of public service employees and has the goodwill to resolve their salary issues. We strive to raise the standards and salaries of all those who work, in accordance with the real possibilities of growth of the Croatian economy and the possibilities of the budget, he said and called on representatives of public service employees to negotiate the BCA.

Established Commission for the Immunological Institute

The government also made a decision to establish a Commission for the Immunological Institute, which includes representatives from the ministries of health, economy, state property, and the City of Zagreb.

The task of the commission is to propose a model for strategic partnership between the government and the City of Zagreb with the aim of initiating production at the Immunological Institute and determining a schedule of activities and the holders of those activities.

The Prime Minister believes that the work of the commission will result in a better situation for the Immunological Institute.
