New Study Program and Dynamic Project from This Academic Year at the Polytechnic

Istrian County Prefect Valter Flego stated on Tuesday, during the presentation of the latest activities of the Polytechnic, that technology is shaping society today and that we live in an era of creating smart regions and cities where there is accelerated growth and application of new technical knowledge.

– They represent the future and will be one of the main driving forces of technological, economic, and social growth and development of Istria and Croatia, emphasized Flego at the press conference.

As the two most significant activities at the Polytechnic, which was established by Istrian County in 2000 and recently confirmed its success, he highlighted the obtained permit for the introduction of a new study program in Mechatronics from this academic year and the approval for the European project DYNAMIC.

– Mechatronics is today one of the most promising fields that will enable our students to quickly find employment, while the Dynamic project will allow them to pursue dual studies that combine theoretical and practical knowledge. Istria will gain the opportunity to retain young and talented people and create synergy and networking between higher education institutions and companies, asserted the Istrian prefect, adding that this has been a trend in the most developed regions of Europe for some time.

– We are aware of how much knowledge and capital in the form of young professionals is needed for our economy, therefore we invest and continue to support all such projects in education. Only in this way can we ensure that these institutions are quality partners to both the business sector and regional and local government, stated Flego. He expressed satisfaction with the successes of the University of Pula and the Polytechnic, as well as the trends of decreasing unemployment and increasing employment.

– At the very top of our GDP structure is manufacturing. Therefore, we must continue to monitor trends in the labor market and invest in new knowledge necessary for the economy to be competitive as a country, as a region, and as an employer, concluded Flego.

Dean Davor Mišković emphasized that the Polytechnic continuously works on preparing new studies and activities that would enrich the studies themselves and increase their attractiveness while meeting the needs of today’s labor market.

– Mechatronics has emerged as a logical choice for a new study as it integrates knowledge that is already being acquired at the Polytechnic and is focused on new technologies, energy efficiency, and production, emphasized Dean Davor Mišković, who invited interested parties to apply for enrollment at the Polytechnic Pula by September 26.

The project DYNAMIC was discussed by the head of the International Cooperation Office of the Polytechnic, Tamara Žufić Košarara, who highlighted that it is a project within the Erasmus + program worth 716,285 euros that will last for 36 months, with implementation starting as early as November. According to her, the partners in the project, along with Istrian County, are the County Chamber of Commerce Pula, companies Holcim and Uljanik, and other European higher education institutions and companies.

– The advantages for our students will be significant cooperation with potential employers and better business positions, while companies will gain the opportunity to select talented staff and collaborate with researchers and lecturers, stated head Žufić Košara.
