From the UN Warn That Trump Dangerously Threatens Press Freedom

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights warned on Wednesday that the offensive statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump about journalists could have dangerous consequences.

Trump, speaking in Arizona last week, defended his reaction to a rally in Virginia organized by white supremacists and criticized news outlets for the way they reported on the violence in Charlottesville, calling journalists “truly dishonest people.”

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein said: “It is truly astonishing when you think that press freedom, not only a cornerstone of the U.S. Constitution but something that the U.S. has defended for years, is now itself a target of attack by the U.S. President.”

– This is a staggering reversal. And the consequences are ultimately dangerous, he said at a press conference.
