Canada Intensifies Deportation of Migrants Who Fled from the USA

Canada has begun to intensify the deportation of migrants who entered its territory after the USA tightened measures against illegal immigrants. The USA has implemented a visa regime for Mexico and has started to deport Mexican illegal immigrants intensively. All of this has resulted in a wave of refugees to Canada, where 60 percent more Mexicans have entered this year than has been customary until now.

On the list of those who must leave Canada are Haitians, who have also tried to find refuge in the northern part of the continent to avoid deportation from the USA. So far, Canadians have deported 474 Haitians from the country, which is a significantly higher number of deportations compared to last year when only 100 were expelled. Namely, Haitians dispersed across the USA and Canada after the catastrophic earthquake in 2010.

Canada has already deported a total of 5529 people this year, which, considering that the year is not yet over and that it deported 7357 people in all of 2016, indicates an increase in deportations.

The National Refugee Committee considers the increase in asylum seekers coming to Canada from the USA to be unsustainable. Therefore, Canadian authorities are trying to deter people from crossing the border and seeking asylum.

At the same time, Canadian authorities announce that they will provide necessary healthcare to asylum seekers who have entered the country and issue them the required work permits.

Just this year, more than 10 thousand people from the USA have crossed into Canada and sought asylum. Thus, Canada has found itself in a situation where this month it is recording the highest number of asylum seekers in the last ten years.
