Šibenik’s mayor, Željko Burić, announced on Tuesday that Šibenik should have a modern multifunctional hall with around 300 seats, worth between 11 and 14 million kuna, in the premises of the former Odeon cinema by the beginning of next summer, with renovations having started in 2013.
The penultimate phase of the renovation of the Odeon cinema will be completed in the coming days, and in the next, final phase, further equipping of the space is expected, which Mayor Burić estimates will require around five million kuna.

“Most of the rough construction work is completed, installations and the basic air conditioning system have been installed, and what awaits us is practically one whole – finalizing the cladding in the building itself and installing equipment that will make this multifunctional center very interesting. Our goal is to finish everything by the beginning of next summer. There is no definitive decision yet, but this space will most likely be managed by the Fortress of Culture, which is already engaged in content that will fit well here,” said Burić during a tour of the Odeon.
A good part of its activities will also be transferred to the Odeon by the Šibenik theater.
The Ministry of Culture provided funds amounting to 800 thousand kuna for the renovation of the Odeon cinema in 2017, and the works during the fourth phase of renovation included the installation of plumbing, sewage, and electrical installations, as well as heating and cooling installations, the installation of internal thermal and waterproofing, screeds, and drywall, as well as other masonry, concrete, and craft works inside the space.
In earlier phases, static rehabilitation of the building was carried out, mechanical and manual excavations were performed, reinforcement was installed, and formwork for foundation expansion was set up. New concrete was placed along with hydrodynamic preparation of the columns. Works were carried out on the facade of the building, external facade layers were installed, including the roof and external carpentry. The drainage system for the entire building, on which the Odeon cinema relies, has also been resolved.
So far, more than 5.5 million kuna has been invested in the reconstruction project of the former Odeon cinema, with the Ministry of Culture contributing 3.4 million kuna.
