Juncker does not want negotiations with Great Britain, warns Turks that they are moving further away from the EU

President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker once again warned Great Britain on Tuesday that there will be no negotiations on future mutual relations until the issues of separation are resolved, and he told Turkey that it is moving away from the European Union due to its own fault.

>>>Juncker: Europe needs ‘equality in food’

– It must be crystal clear that we will not start negotiations on new economic and trade relations between the United Kingdom and Europe until the issues related to Article 50, that is, the separation of Great Britain from the European Union, are resolved,” Juncker said in a speech to EU ambassadors gathered at the annual conference in Brussels. “First, we must resolve the past before we start considering the future,” he added.

The British government this month published a series of positions on Brexit, which did not receive a good reception in Brussels as they speak more about future relations rather than the separation issues that need to be resolved beforehand.

– I have carefully read all the documents produced by the British government, and none of them are satisfactory. Therefore, there are still many questions that need to be resolved, Juncker said.

Speaking about Turkey, Juncker said that the country is moving away from the EU by giant steps.

– Turkey is moving away from Europe by giant steps. The question arises whether we should end the accession negotiations with Turkey – that is at this moment pure theory as there are currently no negotiations. I believe that Erdogan, with whom I have always had friendly relations and with whom I still maintain good relations, wants Europe to say that it wants to end the negotiations so that he can shift the responsibility to the European Union, rather than to Turkey. I want us to act in a way that the Turks themselves notice that they, that is, Erdogan’s system, are preventing Turkey’s accession to the European Union, and not to make the mistake of being declared responsible while the responsibility is entirely on the Turkish side,” Juncker said.

The President of the European Commission pointed out the need for better relations with Russia, without which there is no European security.

>>>Juncker: The EU is ready to defend its interests in Russia

– We must think about better relations with Russia, it depends on Russia and it also depends on us, but there is no European security without Russia, Juncker said, adding that the EU must remain faithful to its principles and values, which among other things means non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea.
