Google is testing a new user interface for YouTube, watching videos will soon be more convenient

The option that YouTube uses, picture-in-picture (PIP), is very useful as it allows users to continue watching videos while browsing content. The option works by minimizing the currently watched video and placing it in the bottom right corner of the screen, allowing the user to browse content.

Google is currently testing several changes in this area. Users who had the opportunity to be the first to try the new option reported that the picture-in-picture mode of the latest version of the app (12.13.53) is different from what they are used to, reports the portal Android Authority.

Instead of minimizing, the video ‘collapses’ down to the bottom bar, including the play and pause buttons. Additionally, the video can be closed with a touch, unlike having to swipe it as was the case until now.

Furthermore, a new progress bar located below the video allows the user to see how long the video will last. Just like before, a single touch is enough to return the video to its original state. The redesigned user interface offers more options than before. However, the downside is that the video is smaller and harder to watch.

Google is currently testing the new option with a small number of users, and it is unknown when, or if at all, it will be available to everyone.
