He is only 27 years old, and it took him a year and a half to become a millionaire

Roger Jin decided he would be an entrepreneur at the age of 14. According to his confession on Reddit, where he answered user questions, Jin said he decided to start his own business while sitting in a math class.

-I realized that the trigonometric problems I was solving would not be of much use in life, said Jin, whose path to business success began when he moved to East Palo Alto, right in the heart of Silicon Valley, after graduating from college.

There, he founded a startup that developed an app to connect people with similar interests, named Bridge, but the whole story quickly failed, so he had to get a job. Although he did not succeed, he did not give up. While buying chocolates in a store during a visit to China, he thought that people outside of Asia would never have the chance to taste those same chocolates. And then it hit him! He founded a new company, a startup, whose main project was to deliver such goods to anyone from any store in the world, to any address. He named the project and the company Treats.

Jin launched the business, website, and distribution network from his living room, with only $5,000 in savings at his disposal.

-For the first 6 months, I struggled to survive. I had to build the company, market it, and grow faster than I was spending my savings, Jin replied to questions posed to him on Reddit.

He admitted that he risked almost everything he had.

-I redirected all the money intended for my living expenses to the company. I went into debt on my credit cards, borrowed money from everywhere just to make the business I started succeed, Jin confessed.

His first customer was a friend from high school. Since Jin attended high school in Shanghai, he posted a status in a FB group of friends from that school, thinking that someone among them might miss their favorite chocolates and snacks they ate while in school.

Very quickly, he began packaging snacks and chocolates in blue boxes with a recognizable logo. It was in 2015.

The revenues of Treats began to grow rapidly, and by the following year, 2016, the revenues were in the seven figures. He also established a partnership with Goodwill, an American organization that helps those in need.

-I am glad I did that too, because they employ people who have not had luck in life, cannot find jobs, have a criminal past, and so on, said Jin, who, although he achieved results in record time that many can envy, does not consider himself one of the examples of a successful entrepreneur from Silicon Valley.

-I am somewhat of a loser because I did everything myself. I built the company from the ground up, I am not a programmer, nor am I involved in the investment scene of Silicon Valley. My idea is to build a company from the ground up so that I can earn enough to start a new business without seeking capital from others, Jin stated.
