– The total seasonally and calendar-adjusted turnover from retail trade in February 2017, achieved by all business entities engaged in this activity regardless of their primary activity, recorded a real increase of 3.6% compared to January 2017. The turnover of all business entities for whom retail trade is the primary activity recorded a real increase of 2.8% in February compared to January, as announced on Monday in a statement from the State Bureau of Statistics.
A total increase in retail trade turnover of 5.7% was also recorded in February 2017 compared to the same month of the previous year, while the turnover of retailers for whom this is the primary activity increased by 5.4%.
The results were commented on his Facebook profile by entrepreneur and investor, as well as advisor to President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, Nenad Bakić, who wrote that ‘probably never in the history of the Republic of Croatia has retail turnover grown so much while the deficit in goods imports is simultaneously decreasing.’ He summarized the published results, highlighting that in the first two months of 2017, retail trade grew nominally by 6.4%, and real growth was 4.1%, while the coverage of goods imports by exports increased from 60.7% to 67.3%, commenting that exports grew significantly faster than imports, which is not a reflection of one large ship being delivered this year, unlike last year. Bakić concluded that this is ‘yet another indicator that GDP growth is quite robust.’
