Asus’s New Transformer is Powerful, but Also Consumes

After numerous PC manufacturers presented their solutions following Microsoft’s Surface laptops, it’s now Asus’s turn. The new Transformer may not be revolutionary, but it is an appealing computer in its category.

It is a 2-in-1 device that is essentially a tablet, and with the accompanying keyboard, it easily gains full functionality as a PC. In that mode, it closely resembles the aforementioned Surface, but the Transformer also stands out with very powerful hardware. It is powered by an Intel Core i7-6500U processor, has 16 GB of RAM, and a half-terabyte SSD for data storage. Such specifications make this computer quite usable for more demanding tasks, at least from a hardware perspective. The device also has two cameras – a main one with 13 megapixels and a secondary one with two megapixels. The latter is relatively weak and not very important as this is not primarily a device intended for selfies.

The Transformer 3 Pro also features a range of slots and ports, such as one for SD cards, which could make it a good and practical addition for mobile photographers. There are also HDMI, USB 3.0, and Thunderbolt 3 ports, as well as a headphone jack. According to initial reviews, it is a well-constructed device that, in addition to performance, offers a quality keyboard, but also a battery with relatively limited duration, which reduces its usability far from a power source. The price is $1500.
