Marked Day of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing

”Man is the key to success; behind everything are concrete people, concrete individuals. The bearers of societal success are those who work diligently and tirelessly, filling the pages of life for a better tomorrow. If we want to achieve progress, or a breakthrough, which we are doing at this faculty and to which we constantly aspire, we need to be better people at all social levels, we need to strive for excellence, we need to be brave, and we need to know how to make decisions.” – these were the words with which Dean Prof. Dr. Mislav Grgić opened the ceremony on the occasion of the Day of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Zagreb today.

Grgić also reminded in his speech of the project ”Innovation Center Nikola Tesla”, which has been included in the List of Strategic Investment Projects of the Republic of Croatia, and is the first and currently the only such project at the University of Zagreb.

Grgić also reminded in his speech of the project ”Innovation Center Nikola Tesla”, which has been included in the List of Strategic Investment Projects of the Republic of Croatia.

However, he pointed out the problem of unsettled ownership relations, which, according to estimates, would cost the state around eight million euros, but FER could receive 80 million euros in return, which is much more than the cost that the state would bear. He explained how the Innovation Center Nikola Tesla would be built on two cadastral parcels immediately next to the FER skyscraper, and how this is the only suitable location, and that the state should cede these two parcels to them.

”We have seen that we are very good at drawing EU funds; it is expected that we could pull something from the structural funds. In return, FER could attract a total of 80 million euros from EU funds. We would all boast about how we have drawn significant funds, and that is probably our goal; we would employ a whole range of companies, we would help the Croatian economy, through taxes, levies, and other contributions, filling the state budget.” – said Grgić, explaining that ICNT can provide young scientists the opportunity to turn their doctoral work into innovation, a new startup, and create new jobs.

”People, man, that is the most valuable thing. The Innovation Center Nikola Tesla had and has the intention to employ 300 PhDs from various disciplines; if we do not employ them, the best of the best PhDs will leave Croatia, they will establish their families abroad and will probably never return to Croatia. The fact that they are leaving Croatia is immeasurable in money.” – he concluded.

At the ceremony, awards and recognitions were given to the most successful students and staff of the faculty.
