Cappelli: From next year we will work on removing burdens from hospitality providers and compensating for the VAT increase

Finance Minister Zdravko Marić and Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli commented on the announcements from hospitality providers that they are ready to go on strike due to the announcement of a VAT increase for the hospitality sector.

-The tax reform is comprehensive, and it should be noted something that no one mentions. In tourism, there are over 200 burdens, which may be a greater burden than taxes. From next year, we will work on removing these burdens and thus try to compensate hospitality providers– said Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli to reporters.

His colleague, Finance Minister Zdravko Marić added that the right to protest is legitimate. He reiterated that the tax reform is comprehensive, and in that context, “the contribution of the hospitality and tourism sector is recognized,” without revealing in detail what mechanisms will be used to relieve that sector.

One of the journalists’ questions also related to the privatization process of Badel. Namely, Slovak St Nicolaus and Viro sugar factory have entered into an agreement for joint participation in the pre-bankruptcy settlement process, with the aim of entering Badel 1862. Minister Marić clearly indicated in his response that this issue falls under the jurisdiction of his namesake, Minister of State Property Goran Marić and Minister of Economy Martina Dalić.

-Colleagues Dalić and Marić have given a brief statement on this matter, and I have nothing to add, except that Badel is in the pre-bankruptcy settlement process in which there will certainly be discussions with creditors- said Finance Minister Marić.
