When BMW acquired Mini, it had only one model in its lineup. In the meantime, its range has significantly expanded, and when the Countryman was introduced in 2010, it was a true small revolution as it was the first SUV Mini. In February 2017, the refreshed Countryman arrives on the market, which is not just a beautified existing model but a completely new vehicle. To start with, it uses a new platform that is otherwise found in BMW’s Series 2. This means it is 20 centimeters longer and three centimeters wider. The trunk has grown by as much as 100 liters compared to its predecessor, and as an option, electronic opening and closing of the trunk door can be ordered, activated by a foot motion. Already seen on larger luxury models, but a novelty for Mini.
Design Innovation The design innovation is the rear part of the roof, which clearly separates from the rest of the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, the large round info center still dominates, which is supposed to continue the design tradition; however, while instruments were once placed there, it is now a camouflaged screen. The new Countryman has retained many switches and as a whole appears youthful. There is no doubt that the new Mini, based on everything seen, belongs to the premium segment. From a technical standpoint, the absolute novelty is the introduction of a hybrid version that combines a three-cylinder gasoline engine with 136 horsepower with an electric motor of 88 horsepower. Together, they have a power output of 224 horsepower, which is transmitted to all four wheels. In electric mode, the car has a range of 40 kilometers, which is sufficient for everyday urban driving needs.
