Zagreb Cinema Europa is the winner of the Award for Best Program for 2016, awarded by the network of European cinemas Europa Cinemas. The most popular independent city cinema has won the prestigious title of European cinema with the best film offerings in a competition among as many as 1,078 cinemas in 644 cities from 41 European countries, which are currently part of the mentioned network. The Award for Best Program is the most significant annual recognition awarded by Europa Cinemas, the highest accolade a cinema can receive at the European level, and one of the largest recognitions to date for a Croatian cultural institution.
– We are very happy and proud that the European cinema community has recognized our work and awarded us this recognition. It inspires us for further work and obliges us to be even better in the future. I hope that soon, with the support of the City of Zagreb, we will renovate the large hall of the most beautiful cinema in Croatia with the best program in Europe, said the cinema director Boris Matić.
The award will be presented to the cinema management, director Boris Matić, executive director Hrvoje Laurenti, program coordinator Selma Mehadžić, and producer Lana Ujdur, by Nina Peče, a member of the board of Europa Cinemas and director of Ljubljana’s Kinodvor at the opening ceremony of the 14th Zagreb Film Festival, on November 12 at Cinema Europa.
