Prime Minister Andrej Plenković stated on Monday that on the first working day he will first focus on the organizational aspects of the Government’s work, then on preparing the first session for Thursday, and he also announced that preparations for the 2017 budget will begin very soon.
“Today we start working, first the organizational aspect of the Government’s work, the office of the Government itself, after that consultations with ministers, preparation for the first session of the Government on Thursday…” said Plenković in front of the Banski dvori on the first working day of the new Government.
As he announced, he has a meeting with ministers today and initial consultations on some urgent matters that will soon be presented to the Government, and tomorrow an informal meeting with all members of the Government.
“The whole day will be meetings. We will see how broad it will be, but we have first consultations on several urgent matters that will soon go before the Government. I think we will have a comprehensive informal meeting with all members of the Government tomorrow,” said Plenković.
In response to a journalist’s question about what will be presented to the Government first, he emphasized that he has several proposals.
“I would like to first familiarize myself with some of the proposals that have already been prepared. I have read quite a bit of the report on the results of Mr. (Tihomir) Orešković’s Government, so we will try to finalize everything that is in a high stage of preparation as soon as possible and present it to the Government and the Parliament,” said the Prime Minister, adding that there is not much time for acclimatization.
Speaking about the comprehensive tax reform, Plenković said that “there will be many legislative proposals, new laws, and some amendments to existing ones.”
“I would like this tax reform package to truly be comprehensive, complete, with clear effects on citizens and entrepreneurs, and generally on economic indicators,” he emphasized.
He also told journalists that he will appoint the head of the Government Office at the first session of the Government and that this week he will resolve everything that is crucial and important for assembling the Government team.
He announced that the budget will be prepared very soon.
“You know that we are already a bit ‘tight’ on deadlines, but we will try to make up for it and prepare a quality budget for 2017, both developmental, and I hope as much as possible oriented towards economic development and smart fiscal consolidation,” concluded Plenković.
