Goran Aleksić: The Entry of Martina Dalić Through the Back Door is a Very Negative Phenomenon, I Will Abstain on the Vote for the Government

Member of Parliament Goran Aleksić (SNAGA) stated on Wednesday that he will abstain on the vote of confidence for the new Government, explaining that it should be given a chance, but that he cannot support a Government in which Martina Dalić, a former Minister of Finance, is present, who, according to him, had an extremely negative role for borrowers in ‘Swiss francs’.

– I will abstain, and as for Ms. Dalić, we all know what her negative role was in 2011 when she had the chance to resolve the Swiss franc issue in a much less painful way than it has been resolved today, Aleksić responded when asked to comment on the composition of the new Government, especially the selection of Martina Dalić as Minister of Economy.

Speaking at a press conference in the Croatian Parliament, convened on the occasion of the announcement of the ruling of the High Administrative Court in favor of the Franak Association, Aleksić said that at that time Dalić, “or her government in cooperation with the banks offered balloon loans”.

– This was agreed upon by some memorandum, whatever it was, the banks offered balloon loans to ease the repayment for users. If borrowers had gone into those balloon loans, they would have been in even greater trouble than without those balloon loans, he said.

– Therefore, the entry of Martina Dalić through the back door is a very negative phenomenon and I do not know how this will reflect on the Republic of Croatia and its citizens. Previous experiences with Ms. Dalić are negative and that is something I cannot support. However, I will still abstain because the government should be given some credit, so let it show in the future that it truly works in the interest of all citizens. We will see what will happen, concluded Aleksić.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković presented the program and the composition of the 14th Government, for which he requested the confidence of the Croatian Parliament. Martina Dalić was proposed as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Crafts. She served as Minister of Finance from December 2010 to December 2011.
