Andrej Plenković Received Mandate to Form Government

The President of the Republic, Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, on Monday granted the mandate to form a new government to the president of HDZ, Andrej Plenković, who presented her with 91 signatures from elected members of parliament at noon in the President’s Office. President Grabar Kitarović stated that she had a conversation with Plenković after he brought her the 91 signatures, proving that he enjoys the trust of the majority of elected members of parliament, and she handed him the mandate to form the new 14th Croatian Government. She congratulated him on the support and wished for the future government to be stable and effective as citizens expect it to take responsibility as soon as possible.

Plenković thanked the President, emphasizing that the “mandate is a great honor, responsibility, and obligation to proceed with the formation of the government as soon as possible, with priorities being the future, the economy, new jobs, and demographic renewal.”

Plenković came to the president after an agreement was reached on forming the government between HDZ and Most, with the support of national minorities and other parties. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia, the mandate to form the government is entrusted by the President of the Republic to a person who, based on the distribution of parliamentary seats in the Croatian Parliament and conducted consultations, enjoys the trust of the majority of elected representatives, and the Croatian parliament has 151 representatives. After accepting the mandate, according to the Constitution, Plenković is required to present the government program and its members to the Croatian Parliament within 30 days and request a vote of confidence.

The constitutive session of the 9th convocation of the Croatian Parliament will be held on Friday, October 14.
