Stjepan Kožić has been serving as the County Prefect of Zagreb County for 15 years. He is particularly proud that in the last two cycles of direct elections, in 2009 and 2013, he won in the first round. He states that his motto is ‘Work, order, and discipline’, and notes that his experience in the real sector, where he worked on the design of heating systems, has greatly helped him in his current role. He believes that the survival of counties is a necessity, and decentralization is the key to further Croatian economic growth.
• What are your plans, how will the County look in five years? – No one likes to be a prophet, nor do I, but I know that I would be pleased if in five years Zagreb County is not only the fastest-growing county in the Republic of Croatia but also much broader. I believe that by then, our key project, ‘Regional Water Supply System Zagreb – East’, will be realized, which will enable all residents of Zagreb County to connect to the public water supply system, which unfortunately is not the case today. I am confident that by then the program ‘Development of Broadband Access Infrastructure for the Entire Zagreb County’ will also come to life, aimed at providing access to high-speed internet for all households in Zagreb County. My wish is that in five years Zagreb County will be an even more modern, faster, and more efficient European county at the service of all its residents.
