For the first time in history, stocks of companies listed on the NASDAQ electronic exchange have taken the throne and occupied the top five positions by market capitalization (market capitalization is obtained by multiplying the total number of common shares of the company by the current market price of the share). Nasdaq, Inc. was founded in 1971 and is headquartered in New York, listed on the NASDAQ exchange (NDAQ:NASDAQ) with a market capitalization of $11.17 billion and is included in the S&P 500 index. NASDAQ (National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations) is an American electronic stock exchange based in New York.
Is the worst month for stocks coming?
Currently, about 3,170 companies from around the world are listed on NASDAQ, but the main role is held by companies from the American market in terms of the number of listed companies (about 88%) and by market capitalization (about 89%). Mega companies (companies with a market capitalization over $200 billion) make up only 0.24% of the total number of listed companies but account for about 31.70% of the total market value when measured by market capitalization. The total market capitalization of all companies on NASDAQ is approximately $9,133.30 billion, and the dividend yield is around 1.17%. Let’s take a look at which five companies are involved.
What do the wolves on Wall Street expect?
1. Apple (AAPL) $615.34 billion market capitalization
2. Google (GOOGL) $542.14 billion market capitalization
3. Microsoft (MSFT) $447.29 billion market capitalization
4. Amazon (AMZN) $393.03 billion market capitalization
5. Facebook (FB) $367.83 billion market capitalization
In the chart below, we can see the year-to-date returns for the mentioned stocks, AAPL +7.40%, GOOGL +3.35%, MSFT +3.81%, AMZN +23.87%, FB +22.56%. All stocks are characterized by a strong upward trend both in stock price growth and in business performance growth. Given that they are achieving higher revenues and profits quarter after quarter, it is hard to expect that anyone will soon replace them on the throne. The only question is which company will be the first to reach a market value of $1 trillion. It is certain that there is no shortage of candidates for such an endeavor.
