The increase in electricity prices is a new bone that both future and former governments are gnawing on. HDZ and Most accuse Ivan Vrdoljak, who responds that it is all due to contracts from the HDZ era. This concerns the compensation for renewable energy sources which, according to HROTE’s old contracts with producers, must dramatically rise from the New Year. Former and future ministers are considering whether this inevitable increase will be paid by distributors from their margin (which they complain is already too small), citizens from their pockets (which they claim is chronically empty), or the state by halving VAT on electricity (which would open a budget hole of 800 million kuna). And what is the actual situation in the ‘renewable’ energy market? Of about 1000 megawatts (in operation or already contracted), almost 75 percent is accounted for by wind farms. Here, the former energy minister is fighting windmills in vain, explaining that all this incentive money goes, one way or another, into speculative pockets, namely into the pockets of foreign investors, without creating jobs. Thus, we have received the Don Quijote of our time.
