Companies that have become known for their social networks are increasingly venturing into hardware. After Facebook entered the virtual reality market with Snapchat, Snapchat has now introduced its first physical product.
To be fair, Snapchat’s hardware creation is much simpler and less pompous, fully tailored to this social network primarily used by younger generations, while older individuals still do not fully understand why it is so popular. Spectacles are, in fact, simple glasses that can record short video clips, ideal for sharing via this social network, and externally they look like ordinary sunglasses that do not attract special attention. The videos last 10 seconds and connect to mobile phones via Bluetooth or WiFi. Interestingly, the recorded video has an angle of 115 degrees and is round instead of square, all to ensure that videos can be easily viewed on a variety of platforms, regardless of whether they are viewed upright or laid down. The glasses themselves will cost $130 and will initially be sold in limited quantities, which is an increasingly common strategy for launching new products on the market. At the same time, the company has also changed its name to Snap Inc., while the name Snapchat now refers only to the popular social network as their most well-known product. Spectacles are expected to be available for sale during the fall.
