Nearly 1400 Applications for Nine Positions in the Parliament

Nearly 1400 applications have been received by the Croatian Parliament for the recruitment of nine officials for indefinite periods. The application process is still ongoing, but it is expected that the best candidates could be accepted into service in October. Specifically, the Parliament has announced that it is seeking two advisors for the Office of the Secretary of the Parliament, an advisor for official websites, and a professional associate in the Media Service, a professional associate and administrative secretary in the Citizens’ Service, an advisor in the Library, a senior archival technician in the General Affairs Service, and an advisor in the Protocol Office.

On average, 154 candidates per position

A total of 1386 applications reflects exceptional interest in the parliamentary job, indicating that there are on average 154 candidates for each advertised position, according to media reports. The highest number of applications was received for the professional associate position in the Citizens’ Service, which requires a higher education degree, one year of work experience, passing the state professional exam, knowledge of English, and proficiency in working with personal computers.

When asked when the nine selected candidates could start working, the Parliament responded that depending on the outcome of the conducted public competition, it is expected that the recruitment of candidates who achieved the best results in the testing process could take place during October.

They also explained why the Parliament decided to hire nine new employees. The last recruitment announcement for the Parliament was published in December 2012, since which time, due to retirement or mutual termination of employment, 26 officials have left the Parliament. Additionally, by the end of this year, nine currently employed officials will retire or leave their positions in the Parliament for other reasons. Therefore, a competition has been announced to ensure continuity of work in the parliamentary Professional Service. It is based on the Plan for Recruitment into the State Service in the Professional Service of the Croatian Parliament for 2016, which was established and published in accordance with the law and with the consent of the Ministry of Finance.
