The European Commission (EC) has approved funding for the construction of a bulk cargo transshipment terminal in the port of Osijek, with a total value of 17.3 million euros, of which nearly 15.6 million euros can be financed by EU funds, the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds reported on Wednesday.
This is the first national construction project in the field of inland navigation through which the port of Osijek will receive a new terminal, thus ensuring increased capacity, better connectivity, and the development and growth of competitiveness, the Ministry stated.
With the construction of the bulk cargo transshipment terminal in the port of Osijek, the transshipment of these goods, which until 2015 took place in the immediate vicinity of the Clinical Hospital Center Osijek in the city center, will be relocated to a new location in the non-urbanized part of the city, which will contribute to the quality of life of citizens as well as environmental protection.
