The business weekly Lider and the Center for Research and Management awarded the prize for best corporate governance practice in Croatia to Atlantic Group, represented here by Emil Tedeschi, who received the award from Nikica Valentić, envoy of the President of the Republic of Croatia.
– There is a deep misunderstanding regarding corporate governance, both in the political and academic communities. There is a profound misunderstanding about the management of companies, especially joint stock companies, about the role of management boards, supervisory boards, and assemblies. There is misunderstanding when appointing ministers as members of supervisory boards, stated Emil Tedeschi.
He recalled the confrontation with HUP and Ivo Sanader in 2005 when he himself insisted that ministers cannot be members of the management board.
– People take on positions thinking they contribute to solving problems, while exposing themselves to conflicts of interest – he concluded.
The awards for excellence in corporate governance were received by AD PLASTIK, ERICSSON NIKOLA TESLA, HRVATSKI TELEKOM, KONČAR ELEKTROINDUSTRIJA, MIV – Metalska industrija Varaždin, while recognitions for excellence were also awarded to PODRAVSKA BANKA, PIK RIJEKA, and OPTIMA TELEKOM.
The awards were given based on the work of the CIRU Research Team, which analyzed the results of all joint stock companies on the regular and official market of the Zagreb Stock Exchange, and based on submitted questionnaires and defined the assessment of corporate governance according to the SEECGAN methodology.
