Gestational diabetes, or simply gestational diabetes, is a disorder that occurs as a direct result of pregnancy and affects women who have never had issues with blood sugar regulation before.
According to the portal Health.com, gestational diabetes is more common in summer, according to new research.
A study conducted in Sweden found that the prevalence of gestational diabetes increased from three percent recorded in March to six percent by June. The study included 11,500 pregnant women and monitored the seasonal occurrence of diabetes and the rate of sugar processing in pregnant women.
It was concluded that during the summer months, specifically in June, July, and August, the blood sugar levels of pregnant women increased, and gestational diabetes was recorded in 51 percent more cases than during the winter months.
Doctors emphasize that further research is needed for a more detailed conclusion, but they warn – be particularly cautious about sugar intake during the summer!
