Online pirates have set sail on a network that is impossible to censor or shut down

A new decentralized network, ZeroNet, has appeared on the web somewhat shyly, unnoticed in our country according to the results of google.hr, which uses Bitcoin cryptography and the BitTorrent (peer-to-peer) protocol for accessing, storing, and distributing entire web pages.

The authors of ZeroNet state that they “believe in an open, free, and uncensored network and communications” and that the pages stored and distributed through their platform cannot be removed as they are simultaneously “nowhere and everywhere”.

The open-source platform was designed in Hungary and is interesting because its structure prevents any censorship, denial, or prohibition of access and serving of content, including popular, often illegal torrents in our country.

In development since 2014, the network gained popularity in March of this year after it became known that it offers a range of destinations for downloading torrents that can be accessed through standard search engines, but only after a quick and easy installation of the client.

According to the documentation, ZeroNet does not offer anonymity per se, but supports Tor (software for anonymous browsing and communication), while the user account is protected by the same cryptographic technology used to secure valuable Bitcoins.

Similar software for decentralized storage and serving of web pages is also being developed by BitTorrent, Inc. (the company responsible for the BitTorrent peer-to-peer protocol) through its “Project Maelstrom”.
