Volvo Strengthens Safety Technology Development and Hires 400 Engineers

Volvo Car Group, under Chinese ownership, has announced the hiring of approximately 400 engineers over the next year, which will be one of the largest hiring initiatives in the company’s history, focusing on strengthening the development of safety technology, autonomous driving, and electrification. Their hiring comes at a time of strong sales of new vehicle models and the consolidation of the group’s position in the premium car market, which is dominated by larger competitors.

Volvo, which was acquired by the Chinese company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group from Ford in 2010, states that most of the new engineers will be based at the research and development center in Gothenburg, western Sweden.

– With this hiring, the company continues to strengthen the automotive cluster in western Sweden and establishes it as a center for automotive software engineering, Volvo announced.

Volvo is developing technologies in the automotive industry such as autonomous vehicles, and just this month signed a partnership agreement with Uber in that area.

The company also announced the opening of a research and development center in southern Sweden in the university town of Lund, where 35 employees will start working next month.
