Italian Financial Police Seizes Record 61 Billion Euros from Tax Evaders

The Italian Financial Police seized a record 61 billion euros from tax evaders last year, the economic institute CGIA reported on Tuesday. Last year’s investigations uncovered 32,000 violations, including tax evasion, payment of wages ‘under the table’, and failure to report workers.

At the same time, the state collected a total of 9.8 billion euros in evaded taxes last year, which is about 14.8 percent, according to the report from the state audit office.

Over the past 15 years, investigations have revealed nearly 506.5 billion euros in unreported income and over 509,000 tax evaders, CGIA reported.
