At the House for People and Art Lauba, and the neighboring building Hauba, the “3rd Zagreb Design Week” (#tdzg2016) has been opened. Over 4,000 m² host furniture exhibitions, designer items exhibitions – #tdzg Expo, and sales-oriented exhibitions #tdzg Market, as well as various events such as conferences, panels, and lectures, with more than three hundred experts from the field of design exhibiting and participating in total.
The partner region, the Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden – are showcasing designer items from their renowned designers as part of the #tdzg Expo, specifically within the Nordic House, designed by Ana Herceg and Jelena Babić from the agency for designing and optimizing sales points, product design, and architecture Brigada*. Furthermore, leading Nordic experts, such as Boris Berlin (Denmark), Love Hultén (Sweden), Ewe Kumlin (Sweden) – director of Svensk Forme, and Pyry Taanila (Finland) have arrived in Zagreb to share their rich experience with Croatian experts and entrepreneurs.
“The design we have prepared for you in Hauba is explicitly Nordic in character and scope. Although there are numerous influences that can be seen at national levels, the design industry in Nordic countries utilizes the synergy that arises from close collaboration and constant exchange of ideas and knowledge. The Nordic arena is a ‘melting pot’ for the coordination and cooperation of our countries, which is today displayed and manifested through a joint exhibition of our design. We are proud to present to you, during the Zagreb Design Week, four main themes from which our Nordic cooperation team in Croatia drew inspiration. They are: living room, garden, children’s room, and kitchen.», stated the ambassadors of Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden in a joint speech.
For the first time, a Design Night will be held on Friday, May 6, and design will come alive throughout the city – at more than thirty partner locations where promotional events, cocktails, lectures, or special sales actions will take place. Additionally, on Augusta Cesarca Street, near the European Square, a Glamping dome (engl. glamorous camping) will be exhibited, a project in collaboration with kupole.hr, which will be fully furnished with furniture and utility items from local companies. As every year, #tdzg2016 will gather a large number of design experts who will share their experiences on the role of design in boosting the economy.
