More than half of respondents support the introduction of mandatory military service

In a survey conducted with over 680 respondents, the EduCentar portal explored public opinion on the introduction of mandatory military service.

Almost 52% of respondents believe that mandatory military service should be introduced as it is excellent for acquiring discipline and work habits. Respondents emphasize that ‘many young people lack any educational discipline, have no respect for work habits, and this concept is unknown to them.’

They believe that military service is ‘a good form of education that is necessary for most men.’

„The army is the best and strongest organization in the world, and everyone aged 16 to 45 should experience it and, of course, depending on their completed education, receive an officer or non-commissioned officer rank.“, commented one respondent.

Respondents state that ‘men today are no longer men and do not know how to change a light bulb,’ and that ‘they are unable to hammer a nail into the wall, let alone something more complicated.’

Some respondents believe that military service is urgently needed: „Of course, only then will they learn to make their bed, understand that dirty socks should not be left under the bed, and ultimately, learn to respect their parents!“

In addition to acquiring discipline, respondents believe that one of the advantages of serving in the military is community: „A person learns a lot about community, or how much people can achieve if they are united. Along with community, one of the more important things learned in the army is to take care of oneself. In the army, especially after service, a person begins to appreciate things they previously did not think were important. That is why I believe that every healthy and capable person should serve in the military, without the option of civil service.“

The smallest number of respondents advocate for civil service of military duty

Just under 7% of respondents support the introduction of military service if there is an option to serve in various institutions. Respondents believe that schools and hospitals are excellent institutions where young people can serve their military duty. They also point out that helping the elderly and disabled would be a good option.

Some respondents oppose the introduction of mandatory military service

42% of respondents believe that young people should not be forced into something they do not desire. They emphasize that there should be ‘the possibility of independent decision-making’ and believe that ‘wars can only be prevented by ignoring everything military.’

Some respondents say that military service is ‘wasting state money and losing time’ and that ‘those who care about the army will voluntarily go to the army, while others should be allowed to do what they want.’

Although they are not supporters of military service, some respondents support military service ‘if there is a possibility of employment after the service period.’

„No one has the right to forcibly determine the place, time, and way of thinking by law or any violent act. Serving military duty is solely by choice!“, concludes one of the respondents.
