The Commercial Court in Zagreb has received a proposal from Fina to initiate bankruptcy proceedings against Magra d.d., the consulting company of Mate Granić – former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The proposal from Fina comes due to unpaid payment obligations over an uninterrupted period of 618 days, totaling as much as 7.31 million kuna. The proposal also states that according to data from the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute, the company Magra d.d. has one employee and open accounts and term deposits in two commercial banks. It is emphasized that, apart from the aforementioned, the Financial Agency has no other information regarding the assets of Granić’s company.
Granić founded Magra in April 2004 as a consulting company whose business activities include, among other things, real estate, business and management consulting, and promotion, i.e., advertising and propaganda.
According to media reports, a month after the establishment of the company Magra, Uskok initiated an investigation against Granić and the director of Končar, Darinko Baga, for alleged bribery in the purchase of shares of Končar trgovina. During Uskok’s secret recording of conversations, Mate Granić allegedly said, “half for you, half for me, half for Baga” – a sentence that has become a symbol of political corruption in Croatia. After spending several days in prison in Remetinec, the County Court in Zagreb did not initiate an investigation against Granić and Baga, and this decision was later confirmed by the Supreme Court.
