Is Bitcoin Becoming an Official Currency for Payments in the European Union?

The digital currency known as Bitcoin, which facilitates online transactions within its namesake digital payment network, has just received an important license from the European Union.

Specifically, after this widely ambiguous digital currency found itself amid several hacking scandals and consequently lost value, this will surely restore it to a respectable level. The Luxembourg Ministry of Finance has issued a license that allows Bitcoin to become a currency for payments within the entire European Union, reports RTL Television.

With this license, Bitcoin will become a currency that can be applied in the valuation of goods and services, just like other physical currencies. The EU will gain insight into the movement of the currency, meaning it will leave its trace, while European leaders will have greater control over money.

So far, the Bitcoin payment system has been used in some countries, but its breakthrough into the mainstream has proven to be a significant challenge.

In the United States, it still operates in separate environments, depending on the financial regulations of individual states, but this EU decision will undoubtedly give it a huge boost. It will be interesting to observe how this will generally reflect on the global economy and the traditional exchange of money and goods as we have known it.
