Lider 551, April 22, 2016.

The debt market, along with bad loans, is the largest in Croatia. Everyone finds their calculations here. Creditors manage to collect part of the hard-to-collect debt, debtors can obtain more favorable repayment terms that they can afford, and debt buyers still make a profit.

This market is worth almost 60 billion kuna. The magnitude of this figure is illustrated by the following comparison – the amount of overdue and uncollected claims is worth as much as half of the state budget, writes Tin Bašić in the new issue of Lider.

Turkish companies are increasingly represented in Croatia, especially in tourism. Croatia’s export opportunities lie in agriculture, food production, manufacturing industry, and modern technologies. What Erdoğan and 90 businessmen will offer Croatia, and what they will seek is revealed in the text by Matilda Bačelić.

One hundred days is the first transitional period for assessing the work of the Government, which we address in the weekly topic of the new issue of Lider. However, this period has been spent on completing ministries and aligning between coalition partners and the non-partisan prime minister. Therefore, real measures are only expected – between hopes for a coherent economic program and fears of continued ministerial soloing. If the Government does not collapse beforehand, write Gordana Gelenčer, Ksenija Puškarić, and Jasmina Trstenjak.

We also bring a detailed report from the International Scientific Conference on Corporate Governance, Management, and Entrepreneurship ‘OFEL 2016’ held in Dubrovnik from April 15 to 16, organized by the Center for Research and Development of Management (CIRU) and Lider.

In early May, Petra Bašić and Petar Pintar, founders and owners of the company Aquatic-design from Zagreb, will begin designing and equipping ten large and thirty smaller aquariums that will be the main part of KaQuarium – the river museum in Karlovac. We present them in Lider’s section ‘Entrepreneurs’.

We also write about the interesting phenomenon of the return of badges. Given that the dressing style of Croatian men is quite uniform and conservative, badges have evidently been a good measure to stand out a bit without ending up in the public spotlight. Sterile suits finally gain some expression. And that for 10 kuna, writes Željka Laslavić.

In the world block, we write about Brazil, which was recently a member of the powerful BRICS, now sinking into corruption and chaos, and about Adam Grant, the highest-rated and youngest tenured professor at the Wharton School of Business, who in his second book ‘Originals’ debunks several myths related to originality and fresh ideas, but also offers many observations and advice.
