Orepić: The New Police Territorial Organization Will Be More Efficient, Does Not Require New Costs or Hiring

Interior Minister Vlaho Orepić announced on Thursday that the reorganization of the Ministry of the Interior will reduce the number of police administrations from 20 to five.

This, he says, will ultimately increase the efficiency of the system and reduce the number of criminal offenses.

The plan to reduce the number of police administrations, which are currently tied to the borders of counties, was presented by the minister ahead of a meeting at the Police Directorate with members of the working group involved in preparing the implementation of the Ministry’s reorganization project. The new police territorial organization, besides being more efficient, does not require new costs and does not foresee new hiring.

The minister stated, as reported by the media, that a concrete proposal should be prepared by June 30, followed by a public discussion, and a decision on the reorganization should be made by September 1. He also added that reorganization does not mean regionalization but rather adaptation to spatial needs.
