Beta Tau Beta Company Develops ePolice Application Used by the Ministry of the Interior

With current access to the central database of the Ministry of the Interior via portable devices, the new application – providing faster access to information – enables the police to better prevent crime and conduct quicker investigations of crimes that have already occurred.

The software used by the police in Croatia was produced by Beta Tau Beta, a partner company of IBM, and is applied on tablet devices and mobile phones. The application was developed with the help of the IBM MobileFirst  platform, which integrates data from multiple sources. One of the data sources is the IBM z Systems mainframe computer. IBM MobileFirst is a flexible programming environment in which applications for various purposes are quickly developed. The development of the system applied in the Ministry of the Interior was financed by HAKOM (Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries) through its Program for the Development of Internet and Broadband Services in the Republic of Croatia.

With current access to the central database of the Ministry of the Interior via portable devices, the new application – providing faster access to information – enables the police to better prevent crime and conduct quicker investigations of crimes that have already occurred. The ePolice application, designed by Beta Tau Beta, won first place at the IBM 2015 Mainframe Mobile App Throwdown in the category of solutions developed by business partners. The award was presented last May in Las Vegas.

With the new system – the application for mobile phones and other portable devices – police officers in Croatia are connected to the central database of the Ministry of the Interior, allowing them to more easily ascertain facts as they can conduct the analysis of integrated data sets immediately at the scene of the incident they intervened in. This shortens the period from gaining insight into the case to making decisions.
