Tour of Croatia Sends the Best of Croatia to the World

The cycling race Tour of Croatia is one of the most significant sporting events this year in Croatia, as evidenced by the interest of numerous renowned cycling teams and media that will broadcast images from Croatia to as many as six continents.

The Tour of Croatia will take place this year from April 19 to April 24 over a total of six stages. The race will start in Osijek, from where it will travel through Koprivnica and Ludbreg to Varaždin. After these 230 kilometers, the entire organization will move to Plitvice Lakes, from where the cyclists will set off towards Split the next morning. This is also the longest stage of this year’s race, measuring a total of 240 kilometers.

The next day features the Makarska – Šibenik stage, which, along with these two cities, will provide television viewers with views of Brela, Sinj, Tučepe, Podgora, Drvenik, Gradac, Primošten, and Rogoznica. On Friday, April 22, the royal stage of the race will be Crikvenica – Vojak on Učka, and the route will pass through Novi Vinodolski, Kraljevica, and Rijeka. A spectacle is guaranteed, as when the race ends and the television cameras turn towards Kvarner or Istria, it will be a view from the most beautiful balcony in the world. A novelty in this year’s race is the team time trial, which will be held over a distance of 40 kilometers between Poreč and Umag, passing through Novigrad. The final stage will start from LifeClass Termi Sv. Martin na Muri, through Čakovec, Prelog, Sveti Ivan Zelinu to Zagreb.

Such a demanding event requires top-notch organization. Along with 168 competitors, over 200 members of their support staff will come to Croatia, with around two hundred people engaged in the organization and race officials, as well as more than four hundred volunteers.

For the technical part of the broadcast, the Spanish production company ISB has been engaged, which has been the executive production company for the last 12 Olympic Games, and will film the race with on-bike cameras and using a special filming helicopter that will follow the race from the air. The race will be broadcast live by HRT and Eurosport, and each evening will feature summaries of the most exciting moments from the stages. The TV broadcast will be aired by numerous television stations across six continents – in Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia – some of which will broadcast the Tour live.

The Tour of Croatia has the official sponsorship of the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Republic of Croatia, supported by the Ministry of Tourism and the Croatian Tourist Board, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Nature, as well as Parks of Croatia, the City of Zagreb, and numerous other cities and counties that are hosts to the start and finish or transit cities of some of this year’s six stages. The race is organized by the agency Top Sport Events, represented by Vladimir Miholjević, sports and technical director, and Ivan Črnjarić, event and marketing director of the race.
