Croatian Accounting System

The new Accounting Act, which aligns Croatian regulations with EU directives, mandates the compulsory application of the prescribed chart of accounts, the content of accounting documents, new deadlines for submitting financial reports, new audit obligations, and a new category of entrepreneurs – micro-entrepreneurs.

The enacted law was soon amended after coming into force by the Regulation on Amendments and Supplements to the Accounting Act to postpone the application of the chart of accounts and to delete some provisions related to the preparation of accounting documents. The postponement of the application of the chart of accounts is a result of pressure from entrepreneurs and the professional public on the Ministry of Finance due to the very short implementation period and high costs. The complex issues still provoke disputes, so the book is a welcome contribution to navigation and discussions.

Although there have always been migrations in these areas, and today they are a widespread phenomenon and a major European problem, research on migrant activities and transnational connections in Croatia is extremely rare. Therefore, the book ‘Transnational Social Spaces – Migrant Connections Across the Border of Croatia’ is more than welcome, especially as it depicts the way of life of numerous residents of Croatia with a migratory background. Until now, apart from journalistic insights, there has not been enough relevant and verified information on this topic. At a time when a new strategy for Croatian migration policy is being developed, scientific insight into the activities and mobility of the migrant population is indispensable for a grounded public debate.

In the 1930s, Corrado Alvaro traveled to the Soviet Union to verify the realization of the dream of a just society. However, he returned to Italy under fascist terror disappointed, aware that a new society is being born in an atmosphere of repression. The novel ‘The Man is Strong’ is Alvaro’s personal experience of a totalitarian society, based on paranoia and fear. In his zeal, the new man is suspicious not only of everyone he interacts with but is also doubtful of himself, to the extent that he is ready to betray those closest to him and confess to crimes he did not commit, all in a desire to preempt possible accusations from others. Although based on the author’s stay in Stalin’s dictatorship, it is still relevant today due to the pervasive technological surveillance over each of us.

There cannot be too many plans for change in life nowadays, so this book joins a sea of very successful titles that offers a life filled with hope and possibilities in seven steps from an inspirational speaker who survived a nearly fatal fire at the age of nine and suffered burns on one hundred percent of his body. The author emphasizes that he would not have survived without the right people who helped him overcome that misfortune, both immediately after it and in the years that followed. The book encourages the reader to take matters into their own hands, to choose their path, and to transform their life into something wonderful. We cannot always choose the path we walk, but we can choose how we walk. An encouraging, inspiring, honest, and emotional work in which the author’s strength and spirit shine from every page.
