The American consulting firm Mercer conducted a study and compiled a list of cities that are the best to live in as well as those that are the most dangerous for life.
As reported by DW, the criteria for selecting cities include political and economic development – political stability, prevalence of crime, rule of law, media freedom, personal freedoms… Seven European cities made it into the top 10 for the best quality of life. According to this selection, the highest quality city to live in is Vienna, followed by Zurich and New Zealand’s Auckland. Next are Munich and Vancouver, followed by Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Copenhagen, and in tenth place, Sydney.
Of course, Zagreb is not on that list, nor are the surrounding cities. Unfortunately, Zagreb found itself on the list of the most dangerous cities to live in. Leading the list is Ukrainian Kyiv due to corruption and war, followed by Belgrade. Zagreb ranks a high fifth place due to – corruption.
Here is the ranking: 1. Kyiv, 2. Belgrade, 3. Sofia, 4. Bucharest, 5. Zagreb, 6. Riga, 7. Tallinn, 8. Athens, 9. Warsaw
10. Budapest.
