SEE Link Securities Trading Platform Becomes Operational

SEE Link, a regional securities trading platform established by the Bulgarian, Macedonian, and Zagreb Stock Exchanges, has become fully operational, it was announced on Tuesday by the Zagreb Stock Exchange.

The SEE Link project was initiated with the aim of creating a regional infrastructure for trading securities listed on the Zagreb, Macedonian, and Bulgarian Stock Exchanges. To provide the necessary legal framework for the entire project, the three exchanges, with equal ownership shares, established a joint venture based in Skopje in 2014.

The functionality of the platform, supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), was announced at the annual conference of the Macedonian Stock Exchange in Skopje. The EBRD provided support amounting to €540,000, intended for establishing the technical solution for the platform for forwarding stock orders, while each participating exchange contributed €80,000, aimed at capital strengthening of SEE Link.

SEE Link will enable the integration of the regional capital market, which has a market capitalization of approximately $30 billion, into nearly 400 securities listed on the three exchanges, in order to positively impact liquidity and provide a simpler and more efficient access for investors and local brokers, the announcement states.

Two “blue chip” regional indices named SEE LinX and SEE LinX EWI will be introduced on April 1, 2016, which should further enhance the market’s attractiveness. The indices will consist of the ten most liquid regional companies listed on the three exchanges: five from Croatia, three from Bulgaria, and two from Macedonia.

It is expected that 22 exchange members from Bulgaria, Croatia, and Macedonia will connect through the platform, and a total of 387 securities will be available for trading.

The Belgrade and Ljubljana Stock Exchanges joined SEE Link in mid-February this year by signing an accession agreement at the EBRD’s Western Balkans Investment Summit in London.
