Conference on Practical Application and Monetization of Data Science

Data science monetization 2016 is an international conference that provides deeper insights into the business application of data science and, most importantly, answers how to monetize the vast amounts of data that companies possess and collect daily.

The conference, which will be held on April 13 and 14, 2016, at the Hypo Center in Zagreb, gathers more than 40 foreign and domestic experts who will, through practical examples, showcase to the business audience the application of data science in their operations.

The conference program, organized by IN2Data and Eventa01, primarily covers five business areas: telecommunications, trade, financial industry, healthcare and pharmaceutical industry, and national security. The first day of the conference is tailored for the business audience, where participants will learn through concrete examples how to leverage data science for data management and making important business decisions. The second day is aimed at a professional audience and individuals who wish to gain deeper insights into the methods and tools used in organizations in the field of data science.

Among others, some of the foreign speakers at the conference include: Jiri Materna, CGI; Michael Kowalski, Lab4motion; Mark Torr, Microsoft; George Zikry, HP; Miha Senčar, Tenzor; and Boro Nikić, Statistical Office of Slovenia. From domestic experts, the conference features: Dragan Primorac, University of Split; Robert Kopal, IN2 Data; Kruno Hrvatinić, Rimac Automobili; Dražen Oreščanin, Business Intelligence; Mile Šikić, FER; Benjamin Cerovac, BisNode; Vladimir Nedović, Flavourspace; Goran Klepac, RBA; Damir Čičak, CRH; Krešimir Đuračić, IN2trace; Hrvoje Šimić, CROZ; and many others.

After Harvard Business Review declared the profession of data scientist the sexiest job of the 21st century, interest in this field has surged. Not without reason, as the demand for individuals who can extract meaning from large amounts of data and understand how to use and leverage it effectively is constantly growing.

The amount of data is increasing (2.3 trillion gigabytes of new data are created every day), and few companies know how to use the available tools to benefit from their analysis. Data, both structured and unstructured, is piling up, while only a small portion of it is used for making business decisions, business innovation, or personalized offers for the right customers at the right time. Regardless of the size of the company or business area, every company possesses data that contains value. The ability to extract value from it enables companies to be innovative and competitive.

Many companies have invested in technology implementation without a clear understanding of what to do with it, where to apply it best, and what results to expect, which increases the risk that valuable data will soon become a pile of unusable data. Data science is more than technology, and only through proper application can it be utilized to create new business value. This conference brings together relevant individuals, experts, management, and the academic community with the intention of showcasing best practices, presenting application opportunities, and encouraging stronger development in this field in Croatia.
