Fight club: Changes at HTV were necessary. Or did the voters of the Patriotic Coalition do the job?

If we are to judge solely by the votes of Lider’s readers, then almost no one in Croatia believes that the ruling coalition governs the public media service in a manner reminiscent of undemocratic regimes or that the changes at HTV were unnecessary, and the accusations unfounded.

As we know this is not the case, given that this topic has sparked many discussions, arguments, and has been a catalyst for yet another division in Croatian society, it is clear as day that the voting machinery of the Patriotic Coalition has once again done an excellent job. This is already the fourth consecutive Fight club where one side wins with almost a hundred percent advantage, thus creating the impression that there is a monopoly of thought in Croatia, which is far from the truth.

Ninety-nine percent of voters or 7,125 votes supported the thesis of parliamentary representative of Most, Ljubica Ambrušec, who stated that “HRT needed to be liberated from politics and returned to promoting the preservation of public good and national interests, and this could only be achieved by changing the leadership of that house. Conflicts of interest, lack of transparency, arrogance, and unprofessionalism are characteristics of Radman’s era. A financial inspection should have been sent to that media house earlier and a business audit conducted, along with the dismissal of the editors appointed by Radman alongside the general director.”

Her opponent in our Fight club, the president of HND, Saša Leković, gathered only 94 votes. It is worth noting that since the beginning of this Fight club on this topic, Dean Šoša, the architect of one of the best programs among all public television channels in Europe, has also been dismissed, and he was replaced at the helm of HTV3 by Krešimir Čokolić, the author of several documentaries about Franjo Tuđman, as well as a couple of shows dealing with Croatian cultural heritage.
