The ruling coalition has accused the previous administration at the helm of HRT of, among other things, a lack of transparency, bias, and unprofessionalism, and has appointed Siniša Kovačić as the new director.
However, the new personnel who will programmatically and financially manage this public service has been met with immediate backlash from a segment of the public. The sharpest criticism came from the Croatian Journalists’ Association, led by its president Saša Leković, a participant in this week’s Fight Club. Leković believes that the changes at HRT once again demonstrate how the ruling coalition has decided to take control of the public media service in a manner reminiscent of undemocratic regimes. Defending them was a member of the same coalition, Ljubica Ambrušec, Leković’s opponent in this week’s Fight Club, where our thesis is ‘the ruling coalition governs the public media service in a manner reminiscent of undemocratic regimes.’ Do you agree with such rhetoric, or are you convinced that the changes at HRT are necessary and that Siniša Kovačić is the optimal choice? We await your votes, as well as your comments.
