HT announces layoffs for about 220 employees

Croatian Telecom (HT) continues to transform its business this year and in this process intends to terminate employment contracts for about 220 employees by the end of March, with an average severance payment of around 230,000 kuna per employee, HT reported on Friday.

“In order to ensure sustainable conditions for further growth and development of the company in the upcoming period, HT continues to transform its business in 2016. In this process, a surplus of employees has been identified, for whom the company intends to terminate employment contracts by March 31, 2016, for business-related reasons,” the statement said.

HT also states that they approach the process of managing the collective surplus of employees “with high social sensitivity and responsibility” and that an agreement has been reached with social partners on increased severance payments compared to those established by the Collective Agreement in force since January 1, 2016.

“Thus, the average severance payment in this process amounts to about 230,000 kuna per employee, which is on average 20 percent higher than the severance payment according to the Collective Agreement, and the intended layoffs relate to about 220 employees. In addition to increased severance payments, financed retraining programs have also been secured according to the choice of employees,” HT emphasizes.

They also note that consultations with the Workers’ Council and other activities have been initiated in accordance with the Labor Law and the Collective Agreement.
